wall piece
wood, paper (maps of England, Wales, Scotland (1993), Map of the old South Africa (1976))
1330mm x 2550mm (90mm thick)
In this work the land-map of South Africa has been cut-up into small squares and reorganised on a large base. The two legs of the 'X' or traditional voters' cross are taken as motif for the piece. The 'legs' are separated from each other and made into three dimensional blocks with the map of Great Britain cut up and reorganised on them. These legs are randomly 'hacked' across the surface of the work. None of the many legs ever manage to cross over to form the voters' cross - dislocated partners trying in vain to find each other in an endlessly disturbed landscape.
